Red Ribbon Week Activities: October 21 – 24

“Our School has SWAG:Students Who Achieve Goals”

We encouraged the students to wear their Red Ribbon every day that week. We were excited about this week and enjoyed teaching your children about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and having healthy friendships!

Each day the kids learned something different about red ribbon week. Below is a list of the things they participated in. 

Tuesday: “Give Bad Choices (& drugs) the BOOT” - wear boots and/or western wear.

Wednesday: “Bright Choices, Bright Future” - wear bright clothes and sunglasses

Thursday: “itune out bad choices” - dress like a rockstar

Friday: “We are Hog Wild about being drug and bully free!” - wear Razorback gear or the color red.

We had library last Tuesday with Mrs. Cantrell. The kids learned/reviewed about table of contents, index, labels, captions, dark font words in books. They were able to explore with a partner and find these things.

This past Friday, we had our second mystery reader. It was Emily's mom. She brought 3 different books with her to read to the class. We enjoyed having her in the class. She was engaging and kept the kids entertained. Some of the books allowed the kids to participate and interact. Thanks for coming!!! Sign up if you are interested in reading to my little Kinders!

Mid October

I never got a picture of Ethan when he was music star at the beginning of the year. He wanted his pic taken like everyone else as he should. So here ha go buddy! Proud of your good choices!!

Brooke got music star with Mrs. Pollard. They love their certificate and special pencil that changes colors!

We had a special visitor come sing, talks, and read to our kinders. She is a local author, Carol Dabney. The kids enjoyed her books and even bought some from her. They kids really do learn from song. She sang with her ukulele.

We had our Roberts Fall Carnival mid October. Ever flex space at Roberts was decorated in a fall theme. I worked in the pattern room where the kids made a pattern bracelet. It was a hit!!

Our wonderful kinder moms decorated our k flex in an apple orchard. It turned out so good. Look how cute it was!! We have enjoyed it for a few weeks aftetwards too!

October Days

Check out what we have been doing this October! Lots of activities and games that are fun and educational. 

Below are some pictures of some of students working on their math partner game called Number Word Match. They have to match the number, word, and dot card. They all did a good job!!  Not only are they working on their skills in math but also learning to share, take turns, and have good sportsmanship! 

Jack and Paris got MVP's the first week in October with Mrs. Apsche. So proud of them!

 Our class raised a certain amount of money for the Book It Fundraiser our school has been doing the past couple of weeks. We won book marks and had a silly sock day. The kids got creative with their socks. I love the mismatch, high and low length socks. What fun!

 Hunter was our music star with Mrs. Pollard. What a good listener, friend, and student he is!

 Every month on the first Monday of the month our school has a staff meeting. Our PTA provides a yummy snack for us after school to enjoy while we learn and teach each other. This month's display of food and drinks was spectacular. Love the themed tables. Thank you to our PTA parents who love our school and teachers! We love you back!!

Every Thursday we are lucky to have Mrs. Jenkins, our G.T.  teacher come to our K classes to teach a lesson with our kiddos. This week she taught a lesson on community helpers/people. She read a book and had hats of different jobs people might have that wear hats. She taught a moral lesson to the kids that not everyone has to wear a visible hat to be doing a job. One good example was that the kids come to school wearing their "thinking cap." Their job is to learn at school. The kids had a blast wearing these hats throughout her lesson.

In Phonics we have been reviewing the short a sound. We were building words that have the short a in the middle of a word. Starting working on CVC words. The kids loved this pumpkin "at" word family building word placemat.

 This past Friday, Emily and Noah got the MVP award from Mrs. Apsche in PE! High Five to them!

 Our room mom put together a secret reader schedule for this school year. We will be having a secret reader come to our classroom every other Friday. This past Friday was our very first one! Phoebe's dad, Mr. Finley came to our class and brought his own book. He read Harry The Dirty Dog. The kids had a blast having him in our classroom. We love visitors. Thank you in advance for signing up and being apart of this great volunteer opportunity!

It is busy, busy, busy...

Each month 2 students are selected for kids with character. They demonstrate our character word and are selected by me. They are invited to a party in the dining room where they are recognized and get a award. Hunter and Lanphia received August/September's word: Respect. This is afterwards when they returned to the classroom. His mama captured a cute photo! 

Heidi and Ethan were the MVP's in PE with Mrs. Apsche this week!

Even with the business of fun educational activities, we were able to learn about nouns. The kids love using the Smartbaord and using technology in the classroom. This was a great sorting activity where the kids decided which picture was an animal or a thing. I then had them go to their journals and draw me a different animal and thing to see if they understand this concept. They did a pretty good job! Some of them even used labels/captions!

We had a special visitor at Robert's Elementary this week. Greg Dee, Meteorologist from Channel 4 cam to visit our kinders. He did a 45 minute presentation with the kids. He showed the kids lots of pictures, videos, and told great safety information regarding storms. He even filmed all the classes that will be aired this coming week at 6:14 and 6:44. Tune in and watch all week to find your child and their class.

 We are learning the process of writing and what we can write about during free write. We made a list of just a few things that the kids said. We added a lot more the following week. This will help the students refer to it when they need a resource.

 I introduced Writer's Workshop to my students this week also. This is what I hope each of my students will be able to do after I teach a mini lesson at the carpet. We have implemented it and some students are already demonstrating these responsibilities. So proud!

 It is field trip day! We headed to the park near the Art Center for a picnic and play time before we saw Go, Dog, Go! Love my students and their sweet smiles.

Here we are heading back to school after the play. I caught some of the kids sleeping on the way back. It was such a fun day but super exhausting.

 Book Character Day was a success! Our school dresses as their favorite character from their favorite book and we have a parade. We had such a fun time. The UCA drumline comes and starts the parade with admin, specialists, grades following behind. We start at the kindergarten wing and go through the first floor out infront of the school and back through the K wing. We even have judges come into the classrooms to pick the best costumes.

 The K teachers were  one of the "aliciouses." We had a blast dressing up. I think the kids loved it even more. Their faces were priceless seeing us. It's all for the KIDS! :)
